"There's a gift-with-purchase that's actually linked to the modular set, and it was being developed at the same time," explained Graphic Designer Crisy Dyment. "And the model designer who was working on it wanted to create a parade that linked back to the marching band students who are in the modular building. He's going around asking what the parade could be and what we could do, and so we sit there and wonder what if we did a silly hat parade."
This concept inspired the team to get more creative than usual, testing out different designs for the silly hats, landing on one that necessitated a modification to an important part of the set. Some of the hats prototyped for the model were shared in the video.
"That's super fun, you can do different outfits, different hats and sure enough, we all got really excited and went to the stockroom and started building the silliest hats we could. But then, I came with a hamburger hat, and the model designer loved it, but he needed to raise the banner because otherwise it wouldn't fit. And so he put a lot of effort into making sure that the silly hat could actually pass through the banner.

"So now, the hat can fit through the banner, and you can swap out the banner because now you can have it say 'Silly Hats Parade' or 'Annual Silly Hats Parade'. You can decide if it's an annual thing or just a one-time parade that's coming through town."
