LEGO Disney 43222 Disney Castle includes eight minifigures, and the choices seem to deliberately cover a wide range of classic Disney eras.
New LEGO set 43222 Disney Castle is launching for VIPs on July 1, and July 4 for everyone else, at the price of £344.99 / $399.99 / €399.99. In comparison to the last LEGO Disney Castle, the new set definitely stands up against its predecessor.
The set, which comes with 4,837 pieces, was rumoured to have several more minifigures than it actually came with. While there hasn’t been an explanation for this, the eight minifigures that did come with the set seem to have been chosen for a reason.
While 71040 came with just five minifigures (which apart from Tinkerbell didn’t seem to be exclusives) 43222 Disney Castle has given us Cinderella, Prince Charming, Snow White, Prince Florian, Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder. Looking at this selection of princes and princesses, it does seem that each couple was chosen to represent a particular era.
Take a look below to see which eras of Disney the new minifigures covered.
3 – The Golden Age
The Disney film Snow White was the first ever film from the company, and came out way back in 1937 in what was known as the Golden Age of Disney films. By having Snow White and Prince Florian as part of the new LEGO Disney castle, there seems to be a nod back to the start of the history of Disney princesses, and means that the set has the first ever Prince Florian minifigure.
2 – The Silver Age
As many Disney enthusiasts would know, the Silver Age of Disney was roughly around 1950 to 1967. In this era, the classic choice of Cinderella and Prince Charming makes perfect sense for this set, particularly as neither of the two have ever been seen as minifigures before. And considering that a lot of the plot of Cinderella sees the castle as a very important setting, they seem to both fit right in.
1 – The Revival Era
Disney’s Revival Era has a lot of the films that many younger Disney fans will have grown up with, so having Tiana, Prince Naveen, Rapunzel, and Flynn Rider (confusingly spelt as Flynn Ryder by the LEGO Group) in the set is a great addition for fans of both LEGO and Disney’s newer works.
While Rapunzel and Flynn are debuting as minifigures for the first time in this set, the Tiana minifigure has been seen before as part of Disney’s collectible figures. However, Naveen has never been seen as either a mini-doll or a minifigure, so it’s great to see him finally get to be represented in LEGO.
