Deadpool isn't in the LEGO Marvel X-Mansion – but not for a lack of trying

Deadpool hasn't made it into LEGO Marvel 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion but it's not for a lack of trying from one intrepid LEGO employee.

Deadpool is certainly X-Men-adjacent at this point, having appeared in some comics and teamed up with some of the more minor X-Men characters in his movies, alongside of course his iconic most recent team-up with Wolverine. However, the red-suited superhero hasn't made it into 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion and indeed hasn't been seen as a minifigure since 2012's 6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown.

That's not from a lack of trying on the behalf of LEGO Senior Graphic Designer Mark Tranter. Speaking to MiniSuperHeroesToday, he joked: "I bring him up every time I can but everyone just says, 'shut up Mark.'"

When pressed on why his passion for Deadpool is being shut down, Mark said he's 'lost track' of the reasons.

"I don't know whose decision it is," he continued. "We can obviously give input but there are reasons and factors that we don't know."

That certainly sounds like it's a blocker more on Marvel Studios' end than the LEGO Group's, although we're reading between the lines on that one. That doesn't mean that you don't get any characters from Deadpool and Wolverine, however, with Wolverine himself making an appearance, alongside (spoiler alert if you somehow haven't seen Deadpool and Wolverine yet) Gambit, who made meme history with his appearance in the movie.

LEGO Marvel 76294 X Men The X Mansion featured minifigures 1024x576

"There are so many mutants to choose from," explained LEGO Senior Model Designer Justin Ramsden, who also worked on the set. "We chose the ones that are the most iconic and work with Marvel to see who we want. Mark and I could have gone on and on and on – and that's not to say those minifigures aren't designed. It's just that maybe they don't come out yet, or maybe they'll never see the light of day."

"We might have had some of them designed because we're all fans," added Mark. "This is something we love to do. Maybe they just haven't found a place in the portfolio yet."

That sounds like there might well be a LEGO Deadpool design lying around in LEGO HQ somewhere but, as the designers suggest, there's no guarantee he'll ever make it into a set, for one reason or another. We're sure his fans will keep hoping, though.
