New Frozen podcast set before third film hints at future of story

Disney is expanding the world of Frozen before the third film in the franchise with a new podcast series and hinting at the future of its story.

At the start of this year, it was revealed that a third Frozen film is on the way after Frozen 2's release in 2019. That's as well as the multiple theme park lands currently under construction around the world. Now, the continued expansion of Frozen shows no sign of stopping as a podcast is set to expand the universe further in October.

Consisting of 12 20-minute episodes, Forces of Nature features a few new stories, some of which may tie directly into the third movie. A post from Disney Books account has revealed an October release date for the podcast. The podcast will be available on a variety of streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple.

As revealed in the synopsis, Queen Anna will be dealing with Disa, the queen of a neighbouring nation and her people who flee Arendelle when their kingdom is flooded. Disa is also mentioned as being curious about the scientific nature of magic. Anna's story will also see her interact with Lord Wolfgang, the Duke of Weselton’s nephew, on an apology tour for his uncle’s behaviour in the first film.

Switching to Elsa and the location of the second movie, a mysterious fire at the castle as well as the spirits of nature's odd actions will see Elsa, Anna, and Disa team up and travel to the Enchanted Forest to find out more. The synopsis continues, mentioning mysterious steam-powered copper automatons.

These automatons sound unlike anything we've seen in Frozen so far and whoever is behind them may be a good contender for a place in the third film.

A further preview provided by Good Morning America includes new voice clips from the original voice cast, confirming that they will return for at least some new lines.

Frozen has been subject to many LEGO sets and even a special now streaming on Disney+. While models based on the podcast specifically seem unlikely, the third film may be a more likely source of inspiration in the future of LEGO Disney – but nothing has been confirmed.
