With so many new and recoloured animals in the new LEGO City sets, it seemed like a good time to do a bit of a round-up.
While we’ve already taken a brief look at the animals from the LEGO City summer 2023 sets, the new sets that we’ve got bring a lot of change and variation to what we already have in the existing LEGO animals catalogue. The newest video from Cheesey Studios goes into more detail about some of these animals, looking at some stand-outs from the summer sets.
Take a look below at some of the animals we're seeing in the new LEGO City sets.
7 – Seals
60376 Arctic Explorer Snowmobile has 70 pieces, two of these being the brand new animals of the nicely-sized seal and the seal pup. The smaller baby white seal can be stacked on top of the adult grey seal, as is the case with many of the new animals.
6 – Hammerhead Shark
While we’ve seen the LEGO version of a hammerhead shark before, 60377 Explorer Diving Boat before in two different LEGO City sets from 2020, this time the shark comes in a whole new colour. The set also gives us a small sea turtle in a new colour, and a large sea turtle to match.
5 – Manta Ray
60377 Explorer Diving Boat also gives us a new manta ray pattern as the fourth iteration of the animal in LEGO form, this time in a blue-ish grey with darker blue spots.
4 – Sea turtles
The little sea turtle, coming in set 60377 Explorer Diving Boat alongside the sharks and the manta ray, isn't a brand new animal creation for LEGO, is the third version of the turtle that we're getting, but has a new colour scheme. However, the larger turtle is brand new for the set.
3 – Polar Bears
The polar bears from 60378 Arctic Explorer Truck and Mobile Lab include two cubs that are new for this year as well as a larger polar bear. The larger bear in particular shows off the ability to move slightly, with both the back legs and neck being moveable. It can also hold fish or other smaller pieces in its mouth.
2 – Shark and Great Shark
60379 Deep-Sea Explorer Submarine has three sharks all in new colours, but one of them stands out a little more than the others. The great shark in this set has two different shades of grey, but is mostly cool because it can ‘eat’ a whole minifigure.
1 – Orca
The biggest new LEGO City animal for this summer is the new orca in 60368 Arctic Explorer Ship. There aren’t any other significant animals in the set (unless of course you include the mini red crab piece, which most people maybe wouldn't?) so the orca really does seem to take centre stage. Like the great shark, it can also fit (at least some of) a minifigure into its mouth.
