LEGO Editions 43019 Football might be cool in its own right, but every Star Wars fan had one thought and one thought only upon its reveal.
And that was to convert 43019 Football into a Death Star. Off the back of 75419 Death Star, which stepped away from the classic spherical shape we've come to expect from brick-built versions of the Imperial war machine, LEGO Star Wars fans are keen for new and improved ways to render the Death Star in LEGO pieces.
While builders were quick to speculate about the Imperial possibilities of 43019 Football after its reveal, Tips and Bricks contributor Evan (aka extraevancontent) has now actually gone and converted the set – even before it's hit shelves. The majority of the changes only require recolours, switching the dishes and plates with grey alternatives.
The trickiest bit is creating the superlaser, built as if in use by the Empire. That was done by flipping the 10x10 dish element and using bar plate spaces, droid arms, and round plates with bars to recreate the laser itself.
Measuring 22cm high, 21cm wide, and 21cm deep, a Death Star-ified 43019 Football is a far easier size to display than 75419 Death Star, for example. While it doesn't have the same level of detail in terms of the dioramas, of course, Evan did show off how you can add a smaller hidden diorama scene if you combine it with previous LEGO Star Wars sets, as he's done with the now-retired 75352 Emperor's Throne Room Diorama.
To try it out for yourself, you can pre-order 43019 Football ahead of its launch on March 1, retailing at £99.99 / $129.99 / €119.99.
