Get up close with LEGO’s new university set before pre-orders open

The LEGO Group has shared another guided tour of an upcoming BrickLink Designer Program set, this time taking us around the lecture halls and labs of the University of Science.

KingCreations’ University of Science will be available to crowdfund directly from BrickLink on June 9 at 8am PT / 4pm BST, as part of Series 8 of the BrickLink Designer Program. The 3,991-piece set will cost £329.99 in the UK, $359.99 in the US and from €359.99 in Europe – and you can now get up close and personal with the model ahead of its pre-order date to decide if it’s one for the wishlist.

The stop-motion video over on the BrickLink YouTube channel takes us through each of the university’s rooms, from its geology and astronomy labs to its library and lecture hall. The building splits down the middle, and the two halves can be connected end to end with a Technic pin and displayed open – for full access to the interior – or sandwiched together for a fully-enclosed structure.

This is the third stop-motion tour of a new Series 8 set published to date, following Dustmark Keep and Hot Air Balloon. That leaves just Brick Railroad Locomotive and Coconut Cape to go for this crowdfunding round – we’ll let you know when those videos go up, so keep an eye on Brick Fanatics as we get nearer to the go live date.

One more time for those in the back: crowdfunding for Series 8 of the BrickLink Designer Program starts on June 9 at 8am PT / 4pm BST. Every fan-designed set that reaches a minimum of 3,000 pre-orders will enter production, with 150,000 total sets available to pre-order.

That production capacity will initially be split evenly between the five sets (at 30,000 copies each), but BrickLink’s dynamic allocation will once again allow for hot sellers to enjoy an increased share of the overall pool. For previous series this has meant sets have been available to pre-order for the entirety of the crowdfunding period – a much improved experience compared to the instant sell-out sets of earlier series.
