LEGO Icons 10360 Space Shuttle Discovery & 747 Plane rumoured for 2025

LEGO Icons 10360 Space Shuttle Discovery & 747 Plane rumoured for 2025

The next LEGO Icons NASA set is rumoured to be 10360 Space Shuttle Discovery & 747 Plane, recreating the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft that transported Space Shuttles for nearly 40 years.

NASA’s heavily-modified Boeing 747 airliners ferried Space Shuttles from their landing sites back to the Kennedy Space Center from 1974 to 2011, and their role in wider space exploration is now set to be acknowledged by a new LEGO Icons set. That’s according to an anonymous source (re-reported by the generally reliable Clay_Bricks), who says 10360 Space Shuttle Discovery & 747 Plane will debut on May 15 for $229.99.

That’s likely not the final set name given the 747 in question was officially known as a Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, but either way this sounds like a pretty interesting concept for a set that could skewer two audiences in one: NASA collectors and aviation enthusiasts. It’s a coming together of sorts of both 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery and 10318 Concorde, presumably closer in scale to the latter given it’s said to include 2,417 pieces.

We’re probably looking at a much smaller Discovery than the one in 10283 as a result, with most of the set’s focus placed on the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. NASA used two separate 747 planes as SCAs, the first acquired from American Airlines in 1974 and the second purchased from Japan Airlines in 1988.

Anyone hoping for a commercial plane out of the box may be disappointed, though: the space agency modified these aircraft heavily for the purpose of transporting shuttles, from stripping out the main cabin’s seats to adding mounting struts on top.

It should nevertheless make for a pretty interesting addition to the growing LEGO NASA collection if it does arrive as rumoured in May, but remember to take these details with a grain of salt for now until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group (particularly given the anonymity of the original source). For now, check out the full LEGO Icons 2025 slate so far in the table below.
