LEGO Batman and NINJAGO movies submitted for Oscar consideration

The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO NINJAGO Movie have both been submitted to be considered for the best animated feature award at next year's Oscars ceremony. This year's two LEGO cinematic releases – The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO NINJAGO Movie – both appear on the list of 26 films submitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for consideration in the year’s animated feature category. Two to five films will be shortlisted, with Variety tipping The LEGO Batman Movie as a potential winner:

Top contenders in the category include Pixar’s “Coco” and Warner Animation Group’s “The Lego Batman Movie.” Indie distributor Gkids boasts a whopping seven entries, including “The Breadwinner,” produced by Angelina Jolie.

DreamWorks’ “The Boss Baby” and “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” are in the mix, as well as Illumination’s “Despicable Me 3.”

Nominations will be confirmed on January 23, 2018. The LEGO Movie was famously snubbed in the best animated feature nominations, leading to a shocked reaction from film industry commentators. The LEGO NINJAGO Movie is out now. Sets based on the movie are available from shop.LEGO.com.
