LEGO Blacktron Renegade won’t include alternate build instructions in the box

No physical instruction manual for 10355 Blacktron Renegade’s alternate build will be included in the box of the upcoming LEGO Icons set.

Fans of LEGO Classic Space will have a nostalgic treat to look forward to in the new year, thanks to the imminent arrival of 10355 Blacktron Renegade. The LEGO Icons model was officially revealed today, with the build priced at £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99, launching on January 1 for Insiders and then for everyone else from January 4.

As well as being a recreation of the original 6954 Renegade from 1987, 10355 Blacktron Renegade also includes an alternate build based on 1988’s 6876 Alienator. Although the latter vehicle’s walking function was very basic at the time, the designer behind 10355 Blacktron Renegade has added an updated enhanced version of the LEGO Classic Space set that can be assembled using the elements included in the LEGO Icons box, as well as a small repair mechanic.

However, it’s worth noting that no physical printed instruction manual for the alternate Alienator will be available with 10355 Blacktron Renegade. The official listing for the upcoming LEGO Icons model states that the ship can be rebuilt via free online building instructions, suggesting that a downloadable PDF will be available at some point, or via the LEGO Builder app.

Similar online instructions are available for many years’ worth of LEGO sets on the official online store, but models such as LEGO Creator 3-in-1 builds come with multiple sets of manuals as standard. While downloading a PDF may not seem like much effort to some, it may be a disappointment for those paying £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 for the privilege of assembling 10355 Blacktron Renegade.

You’ll be able to construct both 10355 Blacktron Renegade builds when the set is released on January 1 exclusively for Insiders members, followed by a wider launch of the LEGO Icons model from January 4.
