The 'something shiny' teased for the British Grand Prix has been revealed as LEGO Formula 1 trophies to be handed out to drivers today.
Following the LEGO brake boards and drivable LEGO cars featured at previous races, the LEGO Group's latest effort in partnership with Formula 1 is a collection of impressive LEGO trophies that will be given out to the top three drivers at the British Grand Prix, as well as the best constructor.
Following the presentation of the official British Grand Prix golden trophy, the winner will receive a gold LEGO Trophy, made up of over 2,717 elements and weighing over 2kg. The second and third place winners on the podium will then receive white LEGO trophies with red and blue detailing, while the constructor's winner will receive a dark blue and gold coloured trophy for their cabinet.
The stunning builds are inspired by the historic Royal Automobile Club (RAC) trophy and have been designed by LEGO designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson. A team of builders from the Billund model shop worked over 210 hours to create them.
The winning driver’s trophy and the constructors’ trophy both measure over 59cm tall. The second and third place trophies measure over 43cm tall each, while the original RAC trophy is 70 cm tall for comparison.
"At this year’s British Grand Prix, we wanted to do something truly unique to celebrate a major anniversary, as well as surprise and delight builders around the world." said Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer at the LEGO Group.
"The legacy of Silverstone is incredible, and we hope fans are inspired by these unique trophy builds that demonstrate how starting with just one LEGO elements, there are limitless possibilities to what you can create.”
“Our partnership with the LEGO Group has already turned heads with the big build LEGO cars in Miami, and our next collaboration will see us mark Formula 1’s 75th anniversary at the venue of the first race in 1950 with these exquisitely built trophies," stated Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula 1.
"It’s been fantastic to work with the LEGO Group on developing creative and engaging moments to drive interest and curiosity in both our existing and new fans and to inject some additional fun into such a celebratory moment as the trophy presentation.”
The reveal of these trophies joins the likes of the working LEGO cars and the many free set giveaways taking place at races during the latest season of Formula 1. This is just the start of the multi-year partnership, too.
"What a moment to celebrate. Since hosting the first round of the Formula 1 World Championship at Silverstone 75 years ago, we have had some iconic podium celebrations, and I could not think of a better way to make 2025 unique," shared Stuart Pringle, Chief Executive Officer, Silverstone. "I am sure the three drivers on the Silverstone podium today will be proudly showing off their fantastic LEGO trophies for many years to come."
You can look forward to seeing the LEGO Formula 1 trophies at the British Grand Prix today, which is due to start at any moment at the time of writing. Stay tuned for any other LEGO Formula 1 news that surfaces from the event.
