LEGO Icons Blacktron Renegade is a bold LEGO nostalgia experiment

The LEGO Group is harking back to classic LEGO sets once again with LEGO Icons 10355 Blacktron Renegade, going all in on nostalgia.

Now officially revealed, 10355 Blacktron Renegade can be built into modern, expanded versions of two classic LEGO sets, both from the 1980's. This is the latest in a long line of the LEGO Group's returns to nostalgic LEGO sets, building on the fact that many people who had those sets as children have now grown up and might want to recapture some of that youthful fun (and have disposable incomes of their own now).

10355 Blacktron Renegade is perhaps more daring than some others, however, like 10497 Galaxy Explorer and 10305 Lion Knight's Castle, in that it's quite a bold and unique-looking LEGO set. It's a relatively obscure call-back, even for hardcore LEGO fans, and Blacktron has always had its own particular style. Love it or hate it, that does mean that the door seems to be widening for what the LEGO Group is prepared to return to.

Join Matthew for a closer look at the set and what its nostalgic roots mean for the wider LEGO system in his latest YouTube video.

LEGO Insiders will be able to pick up 10355 Blackton Renegade from January 1 before its wider release on January 4, retailing at £89.99 in the UK, $99.99 in the US, and €99.99 in Europe for 1,151 pieces.
