LEGO Marvel is rumoured to revisit a rare character in 2025 – but it won’t affect the original

LEGO Marvel is said to be revisiting one of its rarest characters in 2025, but it’s not likely to make a dent in the value of the original minifigure.

According to BrickEconomy, the original Iron Patriot minifigure (inspired by Rhodey’s suit in Iron Man 3) is the third-most-valuable LEGO Marvel minifigure outside of Toy Fair and convention exclusives, behind only Deadpool and Silver Centurion. And it’s not hard to see why: the super-detailed superhero was only available in a polybag given away with pre-orders of TT Games’ LEGO Marvel Super Heroes in 2013.

Twelve years on, 31068 Gun Mounting System and its Iron Patriot minifigure will cost you (on average) £85 new and £54 used on BrickLink. The good news for those of us without that kind of cash to spend on a single minifigure is that it sounds like the LEGO Group is gearing up to drop a new Iron Patriot in 2025. The bad news is that it won’t be based on the character as we saw him in Iron Man 3…

Instead, Iron Patriot is listed among the characters included in the latest instalment in the LEGO Marvel theme’s endless barrage of Avengers: Endgame sets, following on from (deep breath) 76131 Avengers Compound Battle, 76144 Avengers Hulk Helicopter Rescue, 76237 Sanctuary II: Endgame Battle, 76192 Avengers: Endgame Final Battle, 40525 Endgame Battle, 76266 Endgame Final Battle and May’s rumoured 76323 Avengers: Endgame: Final Battle.

That set is numbered 76322 and is rumoured to launch this summer for $49.99, with 373 pieces and minifigures of Thor, Iron Man, Iron Patriot and a Chitauri in the box. If you know your MCU, though, you’ll be keenly aware that Iron Patriot’s suit in Endgame is very different from his suit in Iron Man 3 – and if this rumour is true, we’ll therefore be getting a very different minifigure from the one included in 31068 Gun Mounting System.

So, bad news for those collectors coveting the original Iron Patriot but unable to stump up the aftermarket price… but good news for those collectors who are more interested in seeing something new from LEGO Marvel (particularly amid that absolute raft of Avengers: Endgame sets), because we’ve actually never seen this version of Iron Patriot in minifigure form before.

The other characters rumoured for 76322 are all easy enough to come by that you might have ended up with them by accident at this point, so Iron Patriot is likely to be the main draw of the model for minifigure collectors. Little else is known about it at this stage, but there’s a fair chance that it might complement 76323 Avengers: Endgame: Final Battle if that set also arrives as expected.
