LEGO modular building for 2026 has a trick that makes it even easier to scale up

While the nature of modular buildings makes them easy to scale up, LEGO Icons 11371 Shopping Street is even more suited than most.

With modular buildings being made up of parts that can be switched around and layered, every one of them is relatively easy to scale up if you so choose. You can add extra levels or even blend sets together, with some creative thinking.

However, the newly revealed 11371 Shopping Street takes this one step further, thanks to a nifty trick deliberately included by its designer, Dang Hoàng, as explained at LEGO Fan Media Days in Billund.

"Of course, the modular building comes apart in layers," said Dang. "We tried our best to give it as much height as possible, but if you wanted to do two models stacked on top of one another, you could."

He goes to show the room how the layers of the buildings can seamlessly stack on top of one another, as you can do with other buildings – but he's not done.

"This is just my little secret," added Dang. He goes on to show how stacking multiple levels does leave you with an awkward door that opens into thin air – a definite safety hazard for 11371 Shopping Street's minifigures.

However, Dang has thought ahead. If you flip around one of the elements that make up what looks like the doorstep, it creates a balcony without the need for any rebuilding or ordering new parts to custom-build around it. It's a neat bit of creative thinking that shows just how thoughtful Dang has been while designing 11371 Shopping Street, something that impressed Brick Fanatics' Matthew when he saw the modular building in person during Fan Media Days.

You can see Dang explain the new feature as part of his presentation of 11371 Shopping Street in Billund, as shown in our most recent YouTube video.

LEGO Icons 11371 Shopping Street will launch on January 1, retailing at £229.99 / $249.99 / €249.99.
