LEGO Mosasaurus is getting a glow-up 25 years after debut

The LEGO Mosasaurus is getting a makeover in a 2026 remake, somehow balancing the line between appealing to Jurassic World and LEGO fans.

The arrival of a moulded LEGO Mosasaurus is just a major feature in the upcoming LEGO Jurassic Park set wave. It's included in a set which is remaking something still on shelves, but with a different-coloured Mosasaurus. Instead of resembling the brown-and-green dinosaur from the most recent movie, the figure in 77983 Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack is an unusual shade of blue.

There's plenty of logic to this decision, though. The iconic Mosasaurus from the original Jurassic World movie was this colour, and providing a moulded figure in this design at long last is sure to satisfy longtime LEGO Jurassic World enthusiasts. You'll finally have something to put in the middle of your arena model, even if it's therefore inaccurate compared to the more recent film.

Featuring the Mosasaurus in this colour also serves to reference the original LEGO Mosasaurus. 6721 Mosasaurus was released 25 years ago in 2001, featuring a similar colour scheme to the 2026 dinosaur figure. This would be a fitting tribute to the 25-year-old figure.

It's not clear whether the design from 77983 Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack is a reference to the Jurassic World dinosaur, the original LEGO Mosasaurus, or both.

The only other LEGO Mosasaurus design comes from the LEGO Jurassic World game. While the 2026 figure features the same movement in its fins, the figure is otherwise drastically different. While the video game design features a stretched T. rex asset for the head, the 2026 figure is more specialised.

The long-awaited moulded LEGO Mosasaurus is a fitting tribute to the original dinosaur figure, whether intentional or not, while fulfilling the desires of Jurassic World enthusiasts who have waited for a blue Mosasaurus figure. 77983 Mosasaurus Dinosaur Boat Attack will balance this line ideally when it launches on August 1 for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99.
