LEGO orders cancelled after bargain hunters go on shopping spree with employee discount code

An employee discount code leaked online, meaning that the official LEGO online shop had to cancel dozens, potentially hundreds, of orders. Customers were to get 40% off their LEGO online store purchases on Thursday evening for several hours, but unfortunately for the bargain hunters, the orders were cancelled. A promotional discount code turned up on a discount code website, leading to eager collectors ordering some of the most expensive sets, such as LEGO Star Wars 75192 Millennium Falcon, with a 40% discount. It did not take the staff at shop.LEGO.com long to spot the discrepancy, and the orders were subsequently cancelled. Here is the message that buyers received:

We’re sorry, but we had to cancel your recent LEGO® order because it used a discount code that’s only valid for employees.

You may already have received a cancellation email that was sent automatically, but we just wanted to get in touch to reassure you that no payment will be taken for this order.

When you placed the order on LEGO Shop, your bank temporarily preauthorised the entire amount of the order from your available credit. We’re now in the process of cancelling this preauthorization, so the “reserved” funds on your account will be freed up as soon as your bank processes the cancellation.
