As someone who usually skips over most LEGO Collectible Minifigures, here’s my take on which 71052 Series 29 characters are the most appealing to me.
71052 Series 29 will be landing in just a few short weeks’ time, bringing with it yet another selection of 12 different minifigures for fans to collect. While I don’t usually pick up many such blind-box releases, there do tend to be one or two characters in a typical Collectible Minifigures line-up that are still appealing to me, nonetheless.
Whether that’s down to unique new pieces I might want to add to my own parts collection, handy prints or impressive characters that are a must-own, I’ll only really grab a specific costumed minifigure if they truly stand out from the crowd.

With that in mind, here’s how I’ve ranked the LEGO Collectible Minifigures in 71052 Series 29, from what I consider to be the least impressive right up to the most essential purchases. Note that this ranking is totally subjective, so do feel free to share your own personal choices in the comments below.
1 – Soccer Goalkeeper

Not being a massive football fan, suffice to say that Soccer Goalkeeper holds little appeal for me. There’s still plenty about the Collectible Minifigure to appreciate though, with those who do follow the beautiful game likely to grab the character to add to those famous faces included in recently-revealed LEGO Editions sets and for an all-new printed football.
2 – Cute Witch

The Cute Witch will almost certainly find an audience with collectors, but that’s not me. Having said that, the character’s new hat and hair element (plus cat) could potentially pop up as a useful recolour somewhere down the line, and praise is definitely due for her dual-moulded legs with adorable printed cat tights.
3 – Chocolatier

Although not that visually-impressive, I can easily see 71052 Series 29’s Chocolatier fitting in with my LEGO City scenes or modular building set-ups. I particularly like the look of the minifigure’s dual-moulded arms and chocolate dragon accessory, an element that will undoubtedly prove to be very popular with many fans of LEGO Classic Castle builds.
4 – Unicorn Elf

While these typical sorts of fantasy characters aren’t really my bag, Unicorn Elf does come with a few positives in her favour. Those include some detailed hair, torso and skirt printing, but the stand-out here is the minifigure’s large accessory, a new unicorn colourway with a highly-desirable pearlescent horn element.
5 – Monster Hunter

Moving up the list we come to the Monster Hunter, a Van Helsing-type creature slayer armed with a crazy steampunk gun/sword/flamethrower accessory. Not only might that piece prove worthy of my architectural constructs, but the character’s dual-moulded hat and hair combo is just begging for a recolour at some point.
6 – Marine Biologist

71052 Series 29’s Marine Biologist may not sound that impressive on paper, but the execution of the Collectible Minifigure ticks a lot of boxes for me. From the character’s dual-moulded and printed legs and tile to the inclusion of a pearlescent pink plant and an all-new printed clownfish, consider me sold.
7 – Tuba Player

Those who have already picked up 11371 Shopping Street (myself included) will most-certainly find the Tuba Player to be a must-have, if only for the character’s golden instrument to place in the modular buildings’ music shop. In addition, there’s some fine printing on display here, along with an amusing facial expression that adds a little whimsy to the proceedings.
8 – Mysterious Ronin

Confirmed by the Collectible Minifigures team to be a version of Lloyd from an alternate timeline, I suspect that Mysterious Ronin will be at the top of many fans’ must-buy lists. While I’m not a huge NINJAGO fan, the character’s dual-moulded legs and unique hood piece will come in handy for my own parts collection.
9 – Robot T. rex

Mash almost any animal together with a robot and you have my attention. That same logic applies to 71052 Series 29 and I’ve already pencilled in Robot T. rex as a character I’ll be using the Brick Search app to find. The minifigure boasts intricate design details and printing, as well as a clever reuse of an existing dino head and a new battery element.
10 – Boba Cup Fan

Heading to the top three in my 71052 Series 29 ranking and we have the Boba Cup Fan, another cute character but one that does actually manage to appeal to me. I’m particularly taken with the pearlescent sheen on the lid of her cup costume piece, plus that all-new pink torso and arms will prove to be just the ticket for other minifigures I own.
11 – Bionicle Cosplayer

For many, the highlight of 71052 Series 29 will no doubt be the Bionicle Cosplayer and although I’m not the biggest fan of the now dormant theme, I can certainly see the appeal here. The character’s moulded mask is really well done, as are the minifigure’s detailed printed parts and accessory, so I’ll definitely be hunting for this unique addition come launch day.
12 – Trash Monster

I’m a sucker for creature-based Collectible Minifigures, so Trash Monster gets a big thumbs-up from me. You can almost smell the stench of the character just from this image, so add in a sneaky decaying pumpkin head, slime and muck torso, arms and legs, plus printed flies and fish skeleton, and this is 71052 Series 29’s most essential inclusion for me.
71052 Series 29 launches on May 1, with each blind-box priced at £3.49 / $4.99 / €3.99. Find out more about the upcoming LEGO Collectible Minifigures in our full review here and be sure to download the Brick Search app on iOS and Android in advance.
