LEGO 2026's modular building 11371 Shopping Street brings back some long-dormant bricks from the collection's history.
The Modular Building Collection is an annual purchase for many LEGO fans who have been around since its inception. 2026's 11371 Shopping Street designer Dang Hoàng knows exactly who he's catering to with some savvy inclusions in the 3,456-piece set, returning to some rare bricks that have become increasingly difficult – and expensive – to find over the years.
"We tried to bring back some of the old elements from past modular buildings that haven't been seen in decades," explained Dang while speaking to LEGO Fan Media in Billund. Pointing to a 1x8 and 1x2 sand green bricks, he continued: "You might recognise these two from 10185 Green Grocer. This was our chance to do that, along with a long 1x10 brick."
The 1x10 brick doesn't appear to be from an old modular building, but rather a dark orange brick that only ever appeared in 2004's LEGO Belville 5941 Riding School. Despite not being from the same collection, it's another brick that's locked away behind a long-retired set – but will soon be much easier to get your hands in 2026.
Similarly, the 1x8 sand green brick can only be found in five sets, one of which is 10185 Green Grocer. The other four are LEGO NINJAGO 7419 Dragon Fortress, LEGO Star Wars 8097 Slave I, 7194 Yoda, and 3450 Statue of Liberty. All of those sets are now long since retired, meaning now is the time for the brick to make a long-awaited return.
The rarity of these bricks means they can be expensive to source on the secondhand market, with the sand green 1x8 going for as much as £12.44 on BrickLink (compared to just £2.10 for the more common black) and the dark orange 1x10 fetching as much as £8.13 (compared to £1.88 for a plain black version).
To get your hands on those bricks included in the 3,456-piece modular building, LEGO Icons 11371 Shopping Street will launch on January 1, 2026 for a slightly higher price than previous years, retailing at £229.99 / $249.99 / €249.99.
