Replacement LEGO Star Trek Enterprise sticker is one step forward, two steps back

Replacement stickers fixing the ‘boldy’ error in LEGO Star Trek 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D are starting to arrive, but they’re one step forward, two steps back…

Redditor Capable_Fun_9838 has published images of their new sticker sheet for 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, which they requested after early reviews identified a typo in the set’s hidden ‘to boldly go where no one has gone before’ decal. But while the replacement sticker does indeed correct the spelling of ‘boldy’ (a sly nod to Jean-Luc Picard’s chrome dome? Probably not), it has its own share of fresh mistakes.

Rather than simply adding the missing character to the offending word, the LEGO Group has also reduced the size of the border (closing the gap to the lettering at the bottom of the sticker), removed the rivet design from each corner of the plaque, and – maybe worst of all – omitted the ellipse from the Starfleet insignia.

The resulting decal has prompted some fans to declare they’ll stick with the original sticker instead. “That's honestly really bad,” said SPEK2120. “I'm not even quite sure how that happens. My best guess is the person updating it grabbed a file they assumed was the most current one without confirming it. But even then, how does this get sent off without anyone noticing that it wasn't the final design that was updated?”

The question now is… will the LEGO Group cook up a third sticker sheet for 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D? Not necessarily, because while the initial sheet has a clear and obvious error, the changes made for this one could be argued as stylistic (up to but perhaps not including the missing ellipse), even if they’re comparably worse in many ways.

If you do want the replacement sticker, you can request yours by contacting the LEGO Group’s customer service team.

10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D is available to order from LEGO.com now, and will ship by January 29 in the UK and Europe, within 60 days in the US, and by February 12 in Australia. You’ll qualify for double Insiders points (until December 14) and 40777 Celebration Series: 4. Gingerbread Train Ornament (until December 16) worldwide, while Australian fans will also receive 40768 Type-15 Shuttlepod until March 1, or while stocks last.
