LEGO Star Wars may have reinvented Christmas with its Gingerbread AT-AT

If 40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker is a sign of the direction LEGO Star Wars is heading in for Christmas, we’re very much on board.

After years of excellent mini-build and minifigure-filled advent calendars, the LEGO Star Wars team are taking their festive offering in a new direction for 2025 with the release of 40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker.

While there will always remain a place in the Christmas period for the advent calendars (particularly if they continue to offer exclusive minifigures), their novelty value does tend to diminish for LEGO fans as we age up.

So it is very pleasing to see the LEGO Star Wars team experiment for 2025 with a completely new creative idea for Christmas, in the form of this Gingerbread AT-AT Walker, complete with Gingerbread Darth Vader (don’t ask how he was baked).

What this set offers is a downscaled AT-AT, recoloured and embellished from light grey armour and weapon systems to dark orange with white frosted lining and multi-coloured decorations and sweets, mimicking the look and style of such a vehicle from a galaxy far, far away as if it were made of gingerbread.

The conversion of various details into gingerbread form is quite wonderful – the feet become iced cakes, the head-mounted laser cannons become candy canes, and the interior houses a cosy living room fireplace scene for the Dark Lord Gingerbread himself to snuggle up in, rather than any legion of Snowtroopers.

Importantly, while everything has changed inside and out here, the form and functionality of the AT-AT is perfectly maintained. Colour and decoration to one side, this remains a quality design for a downscaled AT-AT, which makes its existence in LEGO gingerbread form all the more fun and enjoyable. LEGO Star Wars has come in for some sharp criticism in the last couple of years for expensive downsized versions of various ships and vehicles – so when done well and in a context that is most appropriate and that can offer such originality as this, it’s an approach that we cannot fault.

Across a smaller version of an iconic vehicle there is a lot of fun and novelty to be had in 40806, and a final model that looks perfect on display as part of your Christmas decorations. Honestly, beyond once more a cheekier-price-than-it-should-be, we have no notes for the Gingerbread AT-AT Walker.

Instead, we only hope that it is the first of a collection of holiday-themed sets to come out of LEGO Star Wars in years to come. What would a Christmas-themed Snowspeeder look like, or a TIE Fighter? We know what a Christmas-themed X-wing looks like – maybe we’ll get a smaller version of that next year. Or should everything in this collection be gingerbread?

We challenge you to build this set and not be left thinking about what else could work with the same approach – good LEGO sets like this can and do spark the imagination.
