LEGO’s new violet blue colour opens Pandora’s box for Star Wars fans

The LEGO Group is debuting a new shade of purple in 2026, and it’s opened Pandora’s box for LEGO Star Wars fans who can’t agree on Jango Fett’s wardrobe.

The LEGO Star Wars community has long argued over the correct colour for Jango Fett’s flight suit (and therefore his minifigure’s base colour), a debate that reared its head again earlier this year when the character returned to shelves in 75409 Jango Fett’s Starship. Some say it’s blue, so the sand blue used for his minifigures since 2013 is correct, while others say it’s purple – as per the original 2002 minifigure.

That conversation has resumed since the LEGO Group confirmed 11508 Daisies – a Botanicals set coming in 2026 – will introduce a new colour to the portfolio in violet blue, which one redditor has used to mock up a new Jango Fett minifigure. The response has been about as mixed as you’d expect, with no consensus in the comments on which colour is best.

“LEGO got it right [in my opinion],” said CX52J. “All the unedited pictures show it as blue rather than purple. Boba’s sleeves are the same colour and yet I haven’t seen anyone complain that Boba should have purple arms.”

“That still looks to at least have a purple tint to it to me,” replied CallumPears. “Definitely not sand blue but [to be honest] I don’t think LEGO have the perfect colour. Would definitely like to see him with the new purple colour though.”

Redditor hijodelutuao, meanwhile, makes a good argument for violet blue over sand blue regardless of the source material: “Even if the sand blue is more accurate the colour added by the purple is more pleasing personally. LEGO Star Wars already lacks colour diversity in builds, I’d like the minifigs to stand in contrast to that when they can.”

The reality, as always, lies somewhere in the middle. Around seven different Jango Fett costumes were created for the filming of Attack of the Clones, and poring over footage from the movie, behind-the-scenes extras and promotional photoshoots (check out this video by Mandrewlore to see for yourself), sometimes Jango’s flight suit looks blue, and at other times it looks purple.

Whether that’s due to physical differences between the costumes or just the lighting between sources is trickier to say. But either way, the door is at least open for a new purple-suited Jango Fett minifigure, just like the original from 2002’s 7153 Jango Fett’s Slave I that used the now-retired violet for the bounty hunter’s arms and legs.

Given 2025 has just brought us both UCS and play-scale versions of Jango’s Slave I, however, we’ll probably be waiting a long time to see a revised version of this particular LEGO Star Wars minifigure.

75409 Jango Fett’s Starship and 75433 Jango Fett’s Starship are both available now, and each includes a Jango Fett minifigure. The UCS version comes with printed arms while the playset version’s arms are plain, but that’s the only difference between them – they’re both sand blue…
