The LEGO Group has won four of its seven nominated categories in the 2021 Toy of the Year awards, taking home prizes for LEGO Super Mario, Star Wars and Ideas sets.
If you're unfamiliar with the Toy Association's annual Toy of the Year awards, they're basically to the toy industry what the Oscars are to Hollywood – that is, a pretty big deal. This year's event was held online as a result of the pandemic, giving fans around the world the opportunity to tune in to what's normally a behind-closed-doors ceremony.
The LEGO Group had products shortlisted across seven of the event's 16 categories this year, and has come out on top in four of them. Here's the full list of LEGO winners from the 2021 awards:
Construction Toy of the Year: LEGO Star Wars 75292 The Mandalorian Bounty Hunter Transport
Specialty Toy of the Year: LEGO Ideas 21323 Grand Piano
Playset of the Year: LEGO Super Mario
Collectible of the Year: LEGO Super Mario 71361 Character Packs

The first category feels like it basically belongs to the LEGO Group, but the Ideas and Super Mario teams must be pretty happy right now. (Case in point: this tweet from LEGO Ideas Design Manager Sam Johnson.)
LEGO Technic 42115 Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 unfortunately missed out on the Vehicle of the Year prize, as did 71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course in the Innovative Toy of the Year category, while DUPLO 10929 Modular Playhouse was overlooked for Preschool Toy of the Year. We're sure the LEGO Group won't be too dismayed, though.
The 2022 Toy of the Year awards will be held on Friday, February 18, but whether the ceremony will be staged in person or virtually is impossible to say at the moment.
