The CEO of Patreon has directly addressed a legal takedown request connected to an ongoing dispute involving YouTuber Reckless Ben Schneider and Bricks & Minifigs (BAM).
The situation stems from a wider legal and public controversy involving allegations tied to a LEGO Star Wars consignment arrangement and subsequent incidents at the Salem branch of Bricks & Minifigs.
In a video statement shared on social media, Patreon co-founder and CEO Jack Conte confirmed that the platform received an official complaint from Bricks & Minifigs on May 29 regarding Schneider’s Patreon page.
The filing reportedly included a request for immediate content removal under a temporary restraining order, along with a motion for a preliminary injunction, although it is not clear which specific content Bricks & Minifigs was seeking to have removed.
Reckless Ben frequently posts videos to Patreon before publishing them publicly on YouTube, using the platform to offer early access to his investigative content. He uses Patreon to help crowdfund his reporting and raise funds for legal expenses connected to disputes.
Conte said Patreon’s Trust & Safety team carried out a full review of the submission before issuing its decision. He then summarised the platform’s stance in a strongly worded statement:
“After an extensive review and investigation by Patreon's trust and safety team, we have, in fact, unfortunately determined that Bricks and Minifigs can stuff it. We’re keeping Ben’s page up. And if Bricks and Minifigs doesn’t like that, they can sue us.”
Conte confirmed Patreon will not remove Schneider’s page, effectively rejecting the takedown request.
Schneider became involved in the dispute after Oregon resident Bryan Mansell raised concerns alleging that the new owners of the Salem Bricks & Minifigs store were failing to return unsold inventory or honour a consignment agreement, involving an alleged $200,000 worth of LEGO Star Wars sets.
Bricks & Minifigs CEO Ammon McNeff has stated that consignment deals are not authorised under franchise rules, a claim disputed by the former store owner.
The controversy escalated following Schneider’s investigation, which included staged publicity tactics that drew significant online attention. The dispute has since become more widely discussed, with both legal and reputational consequences emerging for those involved.
