Rumoured set name shifts focus of LEGO Super Mario summer set

A tweaked rumoured LEGO Super Mario set name has shifted the focus of the theme's only expected summer release for 2026.

Previously rumoured as 72051 Mario Arcade Machine, Instagram user carter_bricks04 now reports that the expected August release will have the name 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade Machine. That shifts the focus from main man Mario to the gorilla Donkey Kong – although considering Mario first debuted in Donkey Kong, the plumber could still play a role.

Although the set was previously said to cost in the same realm as 72037 Mario & Standard Kart and upcoming release 72050 Luigi & Mach 8, the set name seems to suggest a model closer to 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade. With a previously rumoured piece count of 1,367 (roughly half of 10323's), it would be substantially smaller, however.

There have been Donkey Kong-specific arcade game machines in the past, with multiple classic Donkey Kong arcade games to pick from to play on them. If the rumours prove to be true, we could see a redesign of the basic concept of 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade that fits DK's style – or something entirely new.

Of course, we'll need to wait until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group to know for sure, so take all these rumoured details with a pinch of salt for now.
