Seasonal LEGO set receives retirement update ahead of LEGO Ideas release

One of the most recent LEGO Seasonal sets has received a promising update in light of the LEGO Ideas first 2025 review results announcement.

Our latest update to the list of LEGO sets retiring in 2025 and beyond discovered that 40811 Altar of the Dead had seen its retirement date pushed from December 2026 to December 2027. This extra year of life (which is still subject to change) will theoretically work well with an upcoming LEGO Ideas set, should it follow the usual release schedule.

The first 2025 LEGO Ideas review results confirmed six more models for the theme's future, including La Catrina by yop1172. The towering skeletal figure features some stunning building techniques, paying tribute to the Día de los Muertos figure and the holiday in LEGO like never before.

It typically takes 12 months for a LEGO Ideas project to go from approved to on shelves as an official set. Assuming that this remains true for the LEGO Ideas La Catrina model, not only would it be ideal for Día de los Muertos on November 2, 2026, but it would mean that the two Day of the Dead builds will share more than two months on shelves before 40811 Altar of the Dead retires. The new retirement date forecasts them spending over a year on the shelves together.

This would be far the most LEGO Día de los Muertos representation on shelves at any one time, should the predicted release schedule work out with the new retirement date for 40811 Altar of the Dead. The only previous Día de los Muertos sets have been a BrickHeadz, retired in 2021, and a pair of LEGO Disney collectable minifigures, retired in 2023.

It looks to be nothing but good news for LEGO enthusiasts celebrating the Day of the Dead each year, but we don't know just when the La Catrina set will be released yet.
