Brick Fanatics’ top LEGO sets of 2024 – honourable mentions

Brick Fanatics’ top LEGO sets of 2024 – honourable mentions

Find out our favourite LEGO sets of 2024 that didn’t quite make our collective top 10 list, with personal picks from each member of the Brick Fanatics team.

We’ve already whittled down our top 10 LEGO sets of 2024, a list compiled by aggregating individual nominations from across Brick Fanatics’ staff, with greater weighting given to sets nominated multiple times and rankings within individual lists. That carefully considered methodology inevitably means some of our favourites aren’t going to make the cut, though – 10 really isn’t that many – so here’s a chance for us all to shout about our honourable mentions.

Dive in below for more of the year’s best sets, and don’t forget to check out the rest of our look back over 2024.

Chris – 76921 Audi S1 e-tron quattro

Theme: LEGO Speed Champions Price: £20.99 / $26.99 / €26.99 Pieces: 274 Release date: March 1, 2024

LEGO Speed Champions 76921 Audi S1 e tron quattro featured 1024x576

I’ve got a real soft spot for LEGO Speed Champions – it’s basically the only theme I go out of my way to collect nearly in full these days – so the trickiest part of curating my personal top 10 sets of 2024 was figuring out which car should make the cut. 76921 Audi S1 e-tron quattro tops the podium for its aggressive styling, clean colour blocking and laundry list of intriguing building techniques, all of which are essentially the perfect ingredients for a Speed Champions set.

If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck as far as building experiences go, these cars should always be your first port of call. Secondary and tertiary honourable mentions go to 76919 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car (now overshadowed by the upcoming 2025 F1 range) and 76923 Lamborghini Lambo V12 Vision Gran Turismo (probably the theme’s best 2024 build, but with divisive aesthetics).

Jack – 42639 Andrea's Modern Mansion

Theme: LEGO Friends Price: £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 Pieces: 2,275 Release date: January 1, 2024

LEGO Friends 42639 andreas modern mansion lifestyle featured 1024x576

The LEGO Group seems to be in its modern mansion era at the moment, which kicked off at the start of 2024 with 42639 Andrea’s Modern Mansion. And even with a LEGO Ideas Twilight entry supposedly right around the corner, it’s going to be hard to top this colourful but modifiable mansion model.

LEGO Friends’ larger sets have been consistently impressive since the theme’s reboot in 2023, and 42639 Andrea’s Modern Mansion is a shining example of how the theme has changed. No longer is every set bright pink, and while 42639 Andrea’s Modern Mansion doesn’t shy away from colour, the design isn’t overwhelming either. With everything mini-dolls and minifigures (if you prefer) need to live in luxury, this may just be the best LEGO mansion ever designed and it’s going to be hard for anything to beat it.

Rachael – 40698 Books Are My Passion

Theme: LEGO Ideas Price: Free with qualifying purchases Pieces: 285 Release date: October 28, 2024

LEGO 40698 Books Are My Passion Lifestyle featured 1024x576

Gifts-with-purchase are often a nice extra but rarely impressive enough that they could be a set all of their own – yet 40698 Books Are My Passion is a cosy reader’s dream. With a modest piece count, it still fleshes out an at-home scene perfectly, from the stack of boxes on top (we’ve headcanon-ed them to be full of LEGO) to the cup of tea that’s every reader’s staple.

It’s the perfect size to slot on to a bookshelf and LEGO-fy a book collection. Books and LEGO make the ideal shelf pairings and this free gift blends the two with a generous amount of care. The varied techniques for building books make for an engaging experience from start to finish and it won’t fail to bring a smile to your face every time you spot it nestled on your shelf. One to seek out on the secondary market if you missed it at the time.

Matt – 71819 Dragon Stone Shrine

Theme: LEGO NINJAGO Price: £104.99 / $119.99 / €119.99 Pieces: 1,212 Release date: March 1, 2024

LEGO NINJAGO 71819 dragon stone shrine lifestyle featured wide shot 1024x576

I don’t consider myself a massive LEGO NINJAGO fan, but I’ve got a lot of time for the long-running theme. Every now and again, it unleashes a set that you can’t help but step back and admire, such as 71819 Dragon Stone Shrine. This model really stood out to me in 2024, with a build that seemed to take its cue from recent LEGO Marvel and Star Wars dioramas, offering up both an impressive play and display piece.

Priced at £104.99 / $119.99 / €119.99, 71819 Dragon Stone Shrine includes 1,212 pieces for creating a spectacular set, plus six minifigures. Boasting plenty of interactive features for play, the LEGO NINJAGO model also looks stunning when admired on its own as a detailed and vibrant display. From the magnificent stone dragon waterfall and colourful cherry blossom tree to a library with scrolls and a secret room, this build has it all.

Rob – 42178 Surface Space Loader LT78

Theme: LEGO Technic Price: £29.99 / $34.99 / €34.99 Pieces: 435 Release date: March 1, 2024

LEGO Technic 42178 Surface Space Loader LT 78 featured 1024x576

42178 Surface Space Loader LT78 is worth acknowledging from what came out in a Space-heavy 2024 for how it opened up a level of accessibility and playability to Technic in a way that that theme sometimes struggles to do.

A unique appearance with a wide cockpit and chunky light grey wheels dress up a very clever hands-on play feature that actively transforms the set between two modes, both of which are great fun to wheel around that desolate planet you and your other Space minifigures are exploring.
