Two new LEGO Ideas ‘90s sets officially confirmed

LEGO Ideas has revealed the winners of its two latest contests, confirming which ‘90s-inspired sets will be joining the portfolio over the next couple of years.

The LEGO Group has shifted the date of this reveal around more than once, but has now finally pulled back the curtain on the results of its two ‘90s IP challenges The Next Chapter and The Opening Act. Each contest tasked builders with cooking up a potential set based on a 1990s property, with two different size categories across the two challenges.

The winner of The Opening Act – which asked for builds between 1,000 and 5,000 pieces – is Brent Waller’s The X-Files: The Truth Is Out There, a 2,020-piece two-storey build that features Mulder’s basement office beneath a forest and UFO. The proposed minifigure line-up includes Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, 'Grey' Alien, The Jersey Devil, Assistant Director Walter Skinner, Syndicate Leader and Eugene Tooms.

Taking pole position in The Next Chapter, which required using somewhere between 200 and 1,000 pieces, is Pidelium’s Wallace & Gromit model. The build features both beloved claymation characters riding their iconic motorcycle and sidecar, and will mark the franchise’s debut in LEGO bricks when it hits shelves.

The LEGO Ideas team has not disclosed when we can expect to see these models available to buy, but a typical timeline for Ideas projects arriving in stores is around a year to 18 months after they get the green light (so in 2026 or perhaps early 2027).
