Watch Lionel Messi react to his ‘crazy’ LEGO Editions sets

Lionel Messi has reacted to his three upcoming LEGO Editions sets, including one model that includes a secret reference to his status as the ‘GOAT’.

Ahead of this year’s FIFA World Cup tournament, fans of the beautiful game will be able to pick up a number of sports-related LEGO Editions sets, with 10 upcoming builds launching on May 1. That football line-up also boasts three models based around superstar player Lionel Messi (plus a Collector's Set combo pack), who has finally revealed just what he thinks about seeing himself in brick form.

A post shared on the LEGO Group’s social media platforms sees Messi sitting down to take a closer look at the sets he's inspired, which include 43011 Lionel Messi – Football Highlights, 43015 Lionel Messi – Football Legend and 43018 Lionel Messi – Celebration.

Football’s biggest name is walked through the LEGO Editions models in the video above, with many specific details and previously-unseen secrets being revealed along the way, including the fact that the designers behind the sets had to innovate during the creation of the builds (although it’s not stated how exactly).

What’s more, the colours of the clubs Messi played for back in Argentina have been hidden within the base of 43011 Lionel Messi – Football Highlights, while 43018 Lionel Messi – Celebration includes a secret section that features references to the eight Ballon d’Ors he’s won, plus a white goat figure with a printed number 10 pattern on it that matches the colours of his country's World Cup kit.

As fans of the Argentine player will know, that’s a direct reference to Messi being known as the ‘GOAT’ (Greatest of all Time), a status that will continue to be tested during this year’s upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament.

“My children, my wife, they’re all fans,” exclaimed Messi. “And, well, now they can build mine. It’s really crazy too, because it’s kind of weird, right? But it’s amazing. Really good. I’m truly happy.”

43011 Lionel Messi – Football Highlights, 43015 Lionel Messi – Football Legend and 43018 Lionel Messi – Celebration will be available to purchase from May 1, alongside seven additional LEGO Editions sets that can all be pre-ordered right now.
