Those done with their old LEGO sets and not wanting the extra cash might opt to kindly donate them and here's where to donate LEGO pieces.
While you're welcome to sell old LEGO sets to bolster your bank account, another option is to leave something for future generations by donating your old LEGO models and pieces to charities and other programs. One of these programs might even make you some extra cash while still donating the sets for future use.
The most reliable way of donating LEGO sets and pieces is to head to your local charity shop, which will likely accept bulk assortments of elements or full sets either repackaged or still sealed in their box. Don't expect to receive anything in return via these methods, except for their gratitude. Here's how you can donate LEGO via a couple of different methods.
How to donate LEGO sets

Finding your local charity shop is likely best done using Google Maps or another service but how close one is to you will depend on where you live. We'd recommend calling ahead and checking that they will accept what you have to donate to ensure that the trip isn't a waste of time though. You can also reach out to local schools, libraries and charities including Fairy Bricks, depending on what is easiest or preferable for you.
Alternatively, the LEGO Group have a couple of official methods to donate your old LEGO bricks and sets. The first is Replay. The LEGO Replay initiative launched in the US in 2019, in Canada in 2020, and in the UK in 2024, offering a way for people to donate bricks back to the LEGO Group when they don’t need them anymore.
It's still active at the time of writing you can donate your old LEGO via this initiative by heading to the dedicated page on the official online store and clicking 'donate now'. There are a few terms and requirements to check over first, but they shouldn't be too restrictive.

Another official option to donate LEGO is to use the new LEGO Brick Take Back campaign. This is an exciting addition to the line-up for enthusiasts in select regions that will offer LEGO store credit for your old LEGO elements. You can find out more by clicking here but it seems to be a good way of making some money off your old LEGO while still donating it for a good cause. You will only get LEGO credit via this method but this can be put towards gifts or additions to your collection.
Anyone with an exceedingly rare LEGO item that they're looking to donate might want to get in touch with the LEGO Group directly as they're always seeking to complete their archive. Depending on whether you have something that the LEGO Group hasn't yet acquired (which is admittedly unlikely), they might be willing to take it off your hands in exchange for a bundle of LEGO goodies, as they have recently.
To be clear, it would have to be something quite old and rare to not already be part of the collection though and you shouldn't expect this option to work out. Despite this, there are plenty of other ways both officially and unofficially to donate LEGO sets and pieces to ensure that they find plenty of use in future play.
