While some fans may bemoan the lack of any LEGO Classic Castle minifigures in 71052 Series 29, a warrior theme is still present in next month’s release.
LEGO Minifigures 71052 Series 29 was officially revealed yesterday, with 12 all-new costumed characters arriving on May 1, 2026. While there’s likely to be something for almost everyone in the upcoming Collectible Minifigures, LEGO Classic Castle fans may feel a little left out this time around.
Previous minifigure line-ups have included at least one character based on the enduring LEGO theme, such as the Falconer in Series 24, Vampire Knight in Series 25 and the popular Wolfpack Beastmaster in Series 27, yet there’s an obvious absence of any such faces in Series 29.
The reasoning behind such an omission in next month’s release was explained to Brick Fanatics by LEGO Collectible Minifigures Design Lead Esa Nousiainen and Graphic Design Lead Tore Magelund Harmark-Alexandersen at last year’s Fan Media Days event.
“I don’t think there is any written formula to the balance,” said Esa. “One of our guiding principles is offering something for everyone and that’s how we tried to do it.

“Sometimes there’s a line-up that has maybe more for one segment and the next line-up might compensate for another parameter. For example, there’s no historical knight in this series,” Tore added.
LEGO Classic Castle characters have proven to be extremely popular in previous minifigure series, so the decision to leave them out altogether in 71052 Series 29 came from a specific line of thinking but did at least lead to BIONICLE Cosplayer and Mysterious Ronin making the cut.
“It’s more about inclusion than exclusion,” Tore elaborated, “and the greatest idea will always win. If we can reinvent ourselves, that’s always better than repeating in a slightly different way. I’m a huge Castle and history enthusiast myself, but our own passions have to come second.”
“We’ve had Castle minifigures in the past three series,” Esa elaborated. “With the NINJAGO figure, we get a sword-holder, not Medieval as such, but towards that warrior direction.”
71052 Series 29 will be released on May 1, with each blind-box priced at £3.49 / $4.99 / €3.99. To find out more about the upcoming LEGO Collectible Minifigures, check out our full review here and be sure to download Brick Search in advance.
