Why LEGO Star Wars never does video game sets

There's exciting Star Wars gaming news just announced, but don't hold your breath for any LEGO Star Wars sets based on the titles.

Both announced at last night's The Game Awards, Star Wars: Fate of Old Republic, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer are two upcoming games set in the galaxy far, far away. Before you start preparing your consoles, there's still a long way off, with a trailer only revealed for the latter.

From a LEGO standpoint, there's always the hope that Star Wars sets based on such titles could be on the way when they do come out. However, it's not something that's typically a major part of the theme.

Two characters from Star Wars games were even selected last year for 25th anniversary minifigures, Cal Kestis and Darth Revan, appearing in a collection of minifigures specifically chosen because they would be hard to fit into sets otherwise. But why is that the case?

Brick Fanatics' Matthew caught up with LEGO Star Wars designers a few months ago at Fan Media Days and was able to ask them just that, as well as finding out a little more about why Star Wars films seem to get more weight in the theme than TV shows. Check out what they had to say, as well as a closer look at LEGO Star Wars sets and minifigures inspired by gaming titles, in our most recent YouTube video.
