One of the biggest changes to Maximilian Lambrecht's LEGO Ideas otter design is the addition of a pup, but doing so was essential for the shape.

"I think another reason is also that when you see the sea otter lying down, it's very flat," continued Jordan. "So it was to bring some extra height to the model, because otherwise it is very flat when you just have the base, and most of the sea otter is submerged underwater. We really wanted to bring something on top of it."

There's another aspect of the LEGO Ideas set to consider, which makes sense of the pup's addition, as well. That would be the emotion and recreation of the animal's stereotypical behaviours to increase the overall appeal of the set.
"I think a lot of people recognise the fluffy sea otters from either doing the kind of washing their face expression, or like holding a small pup," added Jordan. "So it was just an idea to add one, and I think it brought a lot more emotion to the set as well."
An infant version of an animal is almost always going to increase the cute factor of a LEGO set, and while the pup certainly increases the piece count of
