First look at LEGO Restaurants of the World GWP

An official look at a new LEGO Restaurants of the World set has been revealed, drastically changing the direction of the 2025 collection.

The LEGO Restaurants of the World range debuted last year with 10362 French Café, and now the second entry in that range has been revealed on the LEGO Product Certification page. What is likely to be named 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan, based on the box art, has been added via various documents.

The 289-piece model comes with one minifigure, depicting a Japanese food stand complete with seating, a menu and a small blossom tree to the side. It's a welcoming model, but it doesn't look anything like 10362 French Café. We can also tell that it's an upcoming gift-with-purchase by the logo on the top right of the box, which only appears on promotional products.

That original Restaurants of the World set had design rules to follow during development, and designer Hoang Huy Dang commented on the process of creating 10362 French Café and these design rules.

“I have a deep passion for adult products, and I wanted to branch out even more to attract different audiences,” he stated. “10362 French Café is something new, something you don’t really expect. My hope is that it could have a substantial place in the product line.

"In the future, if any more products come out, they would stand next to each other," Hoang continued. "That's why we decided not to include the connector, the technical connector, as you might see in a modular building."

That latter point remains true for 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan, which has no specific connectors and can be displayed individually like 10362 French Café. Unlike 10362 French Café, it's distinctly scaled to minifigures, marking a significant departure from the original intent of the collection.

It looks as if 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan isn't actually a continuation of the Restaurants of the World range, but a spiritual successor to the Houses of the World and Shops of the World gifts-with-purchase instead.

Similar to those collections, 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan has a small footprint and could theoretically be combined with other food stands of similar sizes to create a multicultural LEGO food court.

A release date for 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan is not yet known, and the set has no product listing on LEGO.com at the time of writing. Stay tuned to Brick Fanatics, and we'll report as soon as we have an update.
