Five LEGO Restaurants of the World we need next

A brand-new collection is about to start with the LEGO Restaurants of the World and this range is practically overflowing with potential models.

Starting with LEGO Icons 10362 French Café, the LEGO Group is following up on shops and houses as well as the current Gardens of the World range with a line exploring various restaurants. It all begins in France and 10362 French Café demonstrates a level of detail and complicated techniques that are rarely seen in official sets.

Looking at the upcoming build, there are several types of restaurants new and familiar to the LEGO Group that would benefit from a similar set to 10362 French Café. Whether they've had a LEGO model before or not, here are five more Restaurants of the World we'd like to see in the new collection in the future.

Chinese restaurant

Just as we saw in 80113 Family Reunion Celebration, a highly-detailed LEGO Chinese restaurant model is a must for the restaurant range. The distinct architecture and techniques seen in 80113 Family Reunion Celebration and similarly practiced across NINJAGO would be ideal for a complicated model.

There's nothing that would require it to be a massive model either, sticking to a mid-range price point like 10362 French Café, since Chinese restaurants can be found nestled in main streets and all kinds of places in China. It's not a restaurant design that would need to rely greatly on the interior too, which is almost entirely exempt from the first Restaurants of the World set.

American diner

Similarly as iconic as Chinese restaurants are American diners. These classic establishments have been depicted quite a few times before in LEGO sets, including in the retired 10260 Downtown Diner.

This build has an acceptable level of detail but it is scaled for minifigures. Another take on the iconic diner design would allow the LEGO designers to explore different techniques and add more printed details for menus, artwork and much more.

British pub

While a pub-style British building is currently being depicted in the new 10350 Tudor Corner, this hopefully won't stop the LEGO Group from revisiting pubs or at least this kind of architecture in the Restaurants of the World range in the far future.

Whether with further Tudor detailing or not, a second attempt at a LEGO pub a few years down the line is an amazing opportunity for the LEGO Group, once it's not competing with a modular building. Without the need for minifigures, a brick-built pub would have fewer restraints and more freedom to explore classic British architecture, even if it needs to be retrofitted into a fish and chip or coffee shop.

Food truck

A more unique entry into the Restaurants of the World range in the future would be a food truck. Similar to the retro design seen in 40681 Retro Food Truck, a newer LEGO food truck without the constraints that minifigure proportions introduce has the chance to approach different vehicle details at a larger scale.

An element of customisation might even be possible via printed tiles to switch out on the outside of the truck to change the type of cuisine being served, representing all manner of food in a single set. There could even be facades and other elements of scenery to change the part of the world where the food truck is located.

Italian pizzeria

Also featured – but not too much – in the LEGO Modular Buildings Collection is a pizzeria and an authentic Italian pizzeria is an ideal contender for the Restaurants of the World range. A coastal creation with some transparent elements at the front to represent water, a few chairs and tables as well a classic Italian-styled building at the back with a pizza oven visible inside would be a perfect addition to the Restaurants of the World collection.

It's something that the LEGO Group has yet to fully explore, with LEGO Friends 41379 Heartlake City Restaurant from 2019 arguably getting the closest, but LEGO Icons has the potential to explore this style of architecture more comprehensively. Admittedly, this idea might conflict with fan designer Alex Sahli's upcoming Italian Riviera LEGO Ideas set, but it can be held back a couple of years if necessary.
