An extremely tight budget and a very specific shopping criteria will be the key factors driving my LEGO set purchases in August 2025.
With so many LEGO sets having been released on August 1, many may have a tricky time balancing what they want to add to their collections with exactly how much they might have to spend. That’s certainly the dilemma I’m finding myself in at the moment, with too many models having launched this month and not enough funds to pick up everything that I ideally want.
That being the case, I’ve had to take a good long look at my budget for August 2025, then marry it up to the bare essential LEGO builds that I’ve had my eye on for some time. That has meant making some tough choices (on both counts), but I feel it’s resulted in me achieving a lean and targeted approach to my model shopping this month.

My first must-have choice is 40805 Arcade Machine, a 468-piece LEGO exclusive set that definitely strikes a chord with my early career as a video game magazine writer. For such a small model, the build looks to be packed with plenty of retro nods to LEGO and gaming history, so I’m confident that it’ll push all of my buttons.
In addition, 40805 Arcade Machine seems to be a very affordable August 2025 purchase, with the set priced at just £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99, which definitely fits within the parameters of my budget. Sure, some will bemoan the number of potential stickers included with the model, but I feel that the overall look of the model is definitely worth it.

Next up is 10358 Soundwave, the first-ever brick-built Decepticon and my second favourite G1 Transformers character (after Megatron, of course). I’ve not been that bothered about the previous two sets in the LEGO Icons series, 10302 Optimus Prime and 10338 Bumblebee, but the sheer amount of features, functionality and attention-to-details packed into this model have blown me away.
From an opening chest compartment for storing a pair of included cassette tape companions to the set’s outstanding sound brick, 10358 Soundwave stands head-and-shoulders above every other August 2025 release for me. At £159.99 / $189.99 / €179.99, it may be pushing the limits of my available funds, yet this is the one LEGO model I absolutely have to pick up this month without fail.
