There are very few LEGO sets that have been released to date that feature glow-in-the-dark elements. Some of the more prominent include eight LEGO Monster Fighters models, as well as minifigures of DC Comics' Scarecrow, plus Nearly Headless Nick and a variant of Professor Severeus Snape from the Harry Potter theme. In fact, the very first glow-in-the-dark element produced for a minifigure was the Ghost Shroud piece, released way back in 1990.

The use of glow-in-the-dark elements in the set is a nod to the many varied forms of fauna and flora glimpsed on Pandora that have some form of natural bioluminescence. It’s also a subtle way of making the set stand out as something slightly special, in addition to the brick-built Toruk Makto and longer-limbs of the four included Na’vi minifigures.
