LEGO BrickLink Series 7 sets to buy ahead of future rounds

The LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 7 sets are still up for pre-order, and a few will pair great with other upcoming builds in the program.

There's still plenty of time to pre-order the five limited-edition LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 7 sets after crowdfunding started yesterday. These range in price from £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 all the way to £319.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 and will only be available to pre-order until February 23 or while stocks last.

As crowdfunding continues, we can gauge how well each of these models is doing based on their percentage pre-ordered statistic listed in the publicly-available source code on the website. Here's a quick update on those statistics with three sets at over 80% after just one full day.

LEGO BrickLink Designer Program sets are only available as part of their initial crowdfunding phase, and exceedingly limited opportunities to purchase models that were part of cancelled orders. They're extremely limited-edition either way, and it will be hard to acquire past sets in the program after crowdfunding ends.

With this in mind, enthusiasts new to the BrickLink Designer Program may want to consider the upcoming models when deciding what to buy in Series 7. Here are a few suggestions, and remember that you will only be charged for these purchases when they ship out, around four to five months after crowdfunding.

The Alchemist's Shop and the Sleepy Dragon Inn

910062 Alchemist's Shop is the castle-adjacent build in Series 7, and it is designed specifically as a follow-up to the retired LEGO Ideas 21325 Medieval Blacksmith. The Series 7 model costs £179.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 with similar architectural details at a comparable scale, but it's already being directly compared to a Series 9 set.

The Sleepy Dragon Inn from MarinBD has been selected as one of five finalists in the ninth series, recreating a fantasy-style tavern that adventurers can revel in and rest. Images on the listing for 910062 Alchemist's Shop confirm that it goes well with both the Series 7 set and 21325 Medieval Blacksmith. At 2,981 pieces, it seems likely to cost somewhere around £200 / $250 / €250, but this has yet to be confirmed. Crowdfunding for Series 9 starts in October.

The Privateer Frigate Fortuna and Coconut Cape

910059 Privateer Frigate Fortuna is the most expensive model in the seventh series at £319.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 for over 4,000 pieces. It's also proving to be one of the most popular picks so far. Official images of the model have compared to a past and future BrickLink Designer Program set, similar to 910062 Alchemist's Shop.

Those would be 910053 The Thieves of Tortuga, and Series 8's 910065 Coconut Cape. The frigate's huge size nearly completely overshadows 910053 The Thieves of Tortuga in the comparison image, but the height of 910065 Coconut Cape makes for a more balanced display. The 2,425-piece model is going up for crowdfunding in June. Considering the piece count, a price around £180 / $200 / €200 is possible, but that's speculation on our part.

The Sushi Restaurant and the University of Science

The modular-ready 910060 Sushi Restaurant is also proving to be popular in Series 7, costing £249.99 / $279.99 / €279.99 for 3,604 pieces. Though it's not on a baseplate, it fits well within a modular building display, acting as a unique entry based on a region not yet represented in the official collection.

It's in the same vein as Series 8's University of Science by KingCreations. Both builds can be folded up into a modular-ready building or unfolded into one scene. They represent entirely different regions, but would pair well together in a diverse city display. At 3,995 pieces, expect the University of Science to cost a similar amount to 910059 Privateer Frigate Fortuna at £319.99 / $349.99 / €349.99. Crowdfunding for the university starts in June.
