LEGO Ideas prepares for new student challenge

A different kind of challenge is about to get underway on LEGO Ideas, and this one is only for students aged 18 and older.

Just a week after the LEGO Ideas Yu-Gi-Oh! challenge was confirmed, the platform's team have shared a new blog post, warning users of another challenge coming soon. The LEGO Design Student Challenge will start on February 10 next week, only open to students over 18 years old.

It's an interesting limitation and not something that we've seen for prior LEGO Ideas challenges. The rest of the community is still welcome to get involved, though. The idea of the challenge is to invite emerging designers aged 18 and up to explore contemporary culture through LEGO building. Whether that includes regional music, online subcultures, local traditions or a mix is up to you.

LEGO Ideas has been selected as the home for this challenge thanks to the creative culture of the community. It's stated that users understand that ideas begin with curiosity and evolve through dialogue, which will be endlessly useful for this challenge.

The LEGO Group is eager for users to share feedback and shape the next generation of designers as part of this contest. Participating in this challenge may also become part of a student's application for a LEGO Design internship in concept or model design.

Submissions can include sketches, prototypes, rough models, visual narratives, or hybrid explorations and do not have to include a finished LEGO model. Such builds are allowed, but they are not a requirement by any means.

More details have not been shared at the time of writing, but it all kicks off on February 10. This is the first challenge of its kind on LEGO Ideas, and it will be interesting to follow this story as it develops next week. The prize pool, and whether there is any prizes, has yet to be revealed.
