LEGO Pokémon’s biggest set downsized to 228-piece build

We're just under a month away from the launch of LEGO Pokémon and the theme's huge, $650 set, or you could build a 228-piece version.

Whether you're planning on picking up 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise or one of the smaller 18+ sets in the range later this month, there's a lot to love in the theme's biggest build, especially in the trio of creatures it creates. Anyone wanting to grab an official LEGO Venusaur, Charizard or Blastoise on February 27 or beyond is going to have to find room for the £579.99 / $649.99 / €649.99 set in their budget.

Alternatively, there's a much smaller version of the build out there, demonstrating that the scope of the set can be downsized to just 228 elements. Littlehof5's tiny take on 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise has been launched on Rebrickable, providing the instructions and parts list for free.

While it's understandably not nearly as detailed as the 6,838-piece model, you can still tell what the figures are meant to be. Not all of the elements are available on Pick a Brick at the time of writing, but acquiring the elements on the secondary market should still only cost just under £40, according to the platform.

That's a lot for 228 parts, but it's not much compared to the price tag for 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. Of course, the miniature model won't have quite as much of a presence on display, though it will suffice for anyone wanting a LEGO version of these specific Pokémon.

Littlehof5 evidently knows this and has also provided individual instructions for the figures themselves. Trippinbricks, who recently shared an unboxing of the official model, has also shared a design based on this concept on the same day, but the instructions are limited.

It will be interesting to see whether the community follows up on this with miniature versions of 72151 Eevee and 72152 Pikachu and Poké Ball ahead of the launch of LEGO Pokémon on February 27. Pre-orders for 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise have sold out ahead of launch, but the other two sets are still available.
