Rumoured LEGO Spider-Man 2 set should transform LEGO train

The rumoured LEGO Spider-Man 2 set should not only upgrade the minifigures and pieces of the original set, but it should transform the train too.

Among the many upgrades that the rumoured LEGO Spider-Man 2 set could and should feature, there's one aspect of the original set that must be revisited in the reported model, and with a major upgrade of its own. According to reliable Instagram user a.clay.brick (via Brick Tap sources Boo-urns and Bartman), the LEGO Group may be revisiting the train battle scene from the 2004 Spider-Man 2 movie.

With 393 pieces for $49.99, that's only 100 more elements than the original 4855 Spider-Man's Train Rescue, which used a considerable number of them for the brick-built subway car useful in city displays and recreating an iconic form of transportation. Given the context of the scene, including this train again in the rumoured set is entirely unavoidable, but it might be wise to set expectations ahead of time.

Hopefully, the rumoured train wouldn't be remade similarly to Hidden Side's vehicle in 70430 Newbury Subway, which only depicted the front section of the train car as part of a subway facade. That model features 348 pieces, showcasing just how small the budget would be for any kind of recreation of the train car with more detail than the 2004 set.

Thankfully, all hope is not lost for an upgraded take on the subway car in the rumoured set. While many fan-designed creations depict highly-detailed versions of these trains, bricktron91 on Rebrickable has shared one using 397 parts. This would mean that the entirety of the rumoured Marvel set would be only the train though, which is unlikely to be the case.

Instead, iron_foot has a smaller version (but similar in size to the 2004 set) but uses only just over 200 pieces, leaving plenty of parts for additional scenery, play features and minifigure parts. It's inspired by a build from hachiroku24 but with one major change. This build is depicted using the roller coaster track rather than the standard track, but it wouldn't be hard for an official design to conform to the latter instead.

The LEGO community have shown that upgrading the original Marvel subway car model while keeping the parts budget realistic is possible and hopefully a new take on the train is on the way later this year for custom New York displays. For now, 76321 Spider-Man 2 Train Battle is only a rumour and should be taken with caution.
