LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy uses the wrong K-2SO

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past's new trailer reveals the use of a retired set just after a new equivalent has launched.

The first trailer for the second season of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy was released earlier this week, showcasing the adventures to come in the mismatched galaxy far, far away. Official LEGO Star Wars sets depicted in the trailer include current but not quite new releases, such as 75381 Droideka, 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship, 75371 Chewbacca and much more.

The lack of new LEGO Star Wars sets in the trailer seems likely to be due to the production schedule of the animated feature and access to sets only currently or previously available at the time of the second season's creation. For the most part, this is fine, aside from one character who gets a significant upgrade in the trailer, but not the upgrade that you can buy as of earlier this month.

The second season of Rebuild the Galaxy features a retired K-2SO set, when a brand new one that would have worked just as well has recently launched. The closing shots of the trailer showcase the 75120 K-2SO constraction figure as an antagonist, which was retired in 2017.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the new 75434 K-2SO was released, presented at nearly the same scale as the constraction figure. The newer version is notably less posable than the retired figure, which would have been more challenging to animate, but it's still an odd coincidence that this season will be released just over one month after a brand-new K-2SO model was released.

At least the minifigure featured in the second season is the same as the new set, since LEGO K-2SO's minifigure has remained mostly unchanged over the past decade.
