40787 Spiny Shell appears to replicate the Mario Kart item surprisingly well, complete with multiple spikes on the upper blue portion of the power-up, a curved white rim around the middle and a tan and black underside.
At this stage, there has been no official confirmation as to when 40787 Spiny Shell might possibly be available as a GWP, what the spending threshold may be to obtain the set or even if it will turn up as a LEGO Super Mario promotion.
Update May 12: The LEGO Group has confirmed that 40787 Spiny Shell will be available in the Insiders Rewards Centre from May 15 for 2,500 points.
For now, the only LEGO GWP on the horizon is 40767 Up-Scaled Baby Astronaut, a 250-piece model that’s due out at some point soon, but additional details regarding the freebie model have also yet to be revealed.
