There’s a good reason why LEGO Architecture 21062 Trevi Fountain only recreates one side of the iconic Rome baroque monument.
The LEGO Group finally revealed 21062 Trevi Fountain this week, with the 1,880-piece build launching on March 1 priced at £139.99 / $159.99 / €159.99. The upcoming LEGO Architecture set recreates the iconic Rome baroque monument in impressive detail and represents a significant an upgrade on the previous version, 2014’s 21020 Trevi Fountain.
In a recent fan media interview with Zusammengebaut, 21062 Trevi Fountain’s designer, Mary Wilson, discussed the challenges of creating the LEGO Architecture set and why one specific aspect of the build was intentionally left blank.

“This took me about five months,” said Wilson regarding designing and constructing 21062 Trevi Fountain, adding that, “this is my first [LEGO] Architecture set, but I’ve made some Icons sets and the two teams work very closely together.”
Despite the intricate detailing of the front of 21062 Trevi Fountain, the back of the build remains sparse, white and lacking in any features, although there is a good explanation for why that’s the case.

“The [real] Trevi Fountain isn’t freestanding – it’s actually the façade on a building,” Wilson explained. “We didn’t want to waste time and energy on parts that weren’t resonating with people.”
The building Wilson refers to is the Palazzo Poli, a palace in Rome that was altered in the 18th century to form the backdrop to the Trevi Fountain. Today the location houses the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica (Central Institute for Graphics), which includes a free museum with changing exhibits.
21062 Trevi Fountain will be released on March 1, priced at £139.99 / $159.99 / €159.99, and the LEGO Architecture set is available to pre-order now in the UK, US and Europe.
