Saturday Night Live may get a LEGO set, thanks to Rebuild the Galaxy star

Thanks to one of the voices behind LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, Saturday Night Live might be in with a chance of becoming a LEGO set.

Long-running US comedy show Saturday Night Live will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025. A revolution in late-night live sketch comedy when it debuted on NBC in 1975, SNL has gone on to become a cultural institution, eventually spawning the careers of Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy and many other Hollywood stars.

As well as a series of upcoming specials and a three-hour primetime 50th anniversary show in February, SNL may also potentially be on the way as a future LEGO Ideas set, from one of its own former cast members. LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy voice actor Bobby Moynihan has recently collaborated with YouTube series BuildingFriendships to create a brick-built model that covers multiple eras of the hit TV show.

LEGO Ideas 50 Years of Saturday Night Live By @jedibib @buldingfriendships 1

50 Years of Saturday Night Live By @jedibib & @buldingfriendships includes Studio 8H’s Grand Central-themed home base, as well as mini builds of four fan-favourite SNL sketches. The LEGO Ideas project is currently sitting at just 340 votes in the first review of 2025 though, but could still make it to the 10K mark with a boost from all of SNL’s 50th anniversary activities.

The collaboration came about after Moynihan (who voiced Jedi Bob in Rebuild the Galaxy) guest starred on an episode of BuildingFriendships, which led to him joining forces with host Jon Sosis to create a LEGO Ideas model based on the latter’s former hit TV series, Full House.

After the success of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, Moynihan then suggested an SNL set as their next project, but at the time Saturday Night Live was not on the approved list of LEGO Ideas IPs.

That all changed last year though, with updated LEGO Ideas guidelines paving the way for the pair to submit their SNL build. However, with 50 years of Saturday Night Live history to choose from, deciding which mini builds to include was a tough challenge.

“When it came to what sketches to [include in the build], we first decided that with SNL celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, we should do a variety of popular sketches from across 50 years,” Sosis said in an interview with LateNighter.

That ultimately led to the inclusion of the Weekend Update news segment, Wayne’s World, Target Lady and Tom Hanks’ hilarious David S. Pumpkins (well worth a watch on YouTube).

Sosis has also mentioned that additional mini builds may be added to the LEGO Ideas submission as the campaign continues, which could see even more fan-favourite brick-built sketches added to 50 Years of Saturday Night Live By @jedibib & @buldingfriendships.
